About ORIC
The Gandhara University established the Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) to encourage the research culture and teachings in the emergent zones of Medical, Dental, Public Health, Nursing and Paramedics
Fostering Innovation, Empowering Research
Objectives
The ORIC aims to develop a cell within the university responsible for strengthening university research and quality and have upgraded capabilities for research collaboration, fund-raising, dissemination, and commercialization.
- Design research policies for the university.
- Capacity building of faculty by arranging seminars, workshops, training on various topics compatible with the needs of the community, encourage potential scientists to conduct funded research, and engage in research activities that facilitate ways to transform knowledge into the economy.
- Encourage collaborations of departments with international universities to conduct joint research.
- Integration of research activities at all levels and centers, departments, institutes, and postgraduate colleges of the university.
- Promote a multi-disciplinary research environment within the university.
- Develop an inter-university research program for promoting research collaboration between Gandhara University Peshawar and other national and international universities and research organizations.
- Identify industry opportunities and reduce the gap between academia and industry by creating a research linkage between the two.
- Prepare business plans for commercialization of research projects.
- Reform the quality measurement system so that multiple measures will measure research publication quality, and, in addition, a due accord is given to leadership in research, solving meaningful problems, developing research capability, mentoring, collaboration, dissemination, and commercialization.
- Promote mentoring and other practices to develop research capabilities by explicitly developing and supporting mentoring and collaboration practices and enabling their dissemination through technology.
- Encourage the publishing of the subject journals.
- ORIC is responsible for aiding and guidance to the faculty members/PhD scholars in the research projects and responsible to interact with Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, and other funding/donor agencies in connection to above listed functions/activities.

The establishment of ORIC will provide strategic and operational support to the university’s research activities/program and will have a central role in facilitating the university’s research outcomes. It will promote innovative research culture and bridge the gap between academia and industry through research commercialization activities.

Our Vision
The advancement of the research in the medical, dental, allied health, and paramedical areas to strengthen the thematic research on national challenges, develop flexible evaluation criteria, and enhance faculty skills in research methodologies, collaboration, dissemination, and commercialization. The need to intensify faculty debate and collaboration, increase research funding, augment demand for research in the government and the private sectors. Increase collaborative research with growing industries in the country and enhance and expand business incubation centers in universities.

Functions of ORIC
- To work under the directions of HEC.
- Conduct two meetings a year with HEC.
- Identifying and informing the faculty about the research grants opportunities for them to apply and then assist them in acquiring funds from international and national funding agencies.
- To keep track of all the research carried out in the university by faculty and staff and then commercialize the relevant research to reap maximum benefit for the industry and therefore translating the research into the public benefit.
- To deal with plagiarism cases and to advance an anti-plagiarism culture via powerful software for detecting plagiarism i.e., Turnitin.
- Arranging seminars and workshops for the university’s students and faculty.
